Accessibility statement
We build for the same standard our institutional and federal clients are held to. If something on this site blocks you, tell us and we will fix it.
Cooper Mechanical, Inc. intends this website to be usable by everyone, including people who navigate with a keyboard, a screen reader, magnification or voice control. The site is built to substantially conform to WCAG 2.1 Level AA, the standard referenced by Section 508 of the Rehabilitation Act.
Accessibility is treated the same way we treat a punch list: it is checked before handover and corrected when a defect is reported.
What is built into the site
- Semantic HTML landmarks on every page: one banner, one main, one contentinfo, and a single H1 with a logical heading order beneath it.
- A visible "skip to content" link as the first focusable element.
- Keyboard operation throughout — the navigation, mobile drawer, FAQ accordions, project filters and contact form all work without a mouse, with visible focus rings.
- The mobile drawer is a labelled dialog: it traps nothing the user cannot escape, closes on Escape, and reports its state with aria-expanded and aria-controls.
- Descriptive alternative text on every content image; decorative graphics are hidden from assistive technology.
- Form fields have real labels, errors are announced in text rather than by colour alone, and the confirmation message receives focus after submission.
- Body text meets or exceeds a 4.5:1 contrast ratio; large display type meets 3:1. Orange is used as an accent behind dark text, never as light text on white.
- Tap targets are at least 44 by 44 pixels on touch screens.
- All motion — the reveal-on-scroll and hover transitions — is disabled automatically for visitors whose system requests reduced motion.
- The layout reflows without horizontal scrolling from 320 pixels up to 1920 pixels, and text can be zoomed to 200 percent without loss of content.
Where the site falls short
Listing the gaps is more useful than claiming there are none.
- No formal third-party audit has been carried out. The statement below reflects internal testing only.
- Downloadable documents added to the site later (specification sheets, capability statements) may not be tagged for screen readers. Ask us and we will supply an accessible version.
- Embedded third-party content, if any is added in future, is outside our direct control.
